I love you in Hindi: two speaker forms
Use मैं तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ — Main tumse pyaar karta hoon with a masculine speaker form, or मैं तुमसे प्यार करती हूँ — Main tumse pyaar karti hoon with a feminine speaker form.
| Speaker | Hindi | Romanization |
|---|---|---|
| Man | मैं तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ | Main tumse pyaar karta hoon |
| Woman | मैं तुमसे प्यार करती हूँ | Main tumse pyaar karti hoon |
The ending follows the speaker, not the boyfriend, girlfriend, or other person receiving the message. A woman addressing a man uses karti; a man addressing a woman uses karta.
Hindi script and English letters
The Hindi sentences above use Devanagari. The Latin letters beneath them are romanization: a way to read the Hindi words, not an English translation.
You may see pyar instead of pyaar, or hun instead of hoon. Informal spellings vary. This page uses pyaar and hoon consistently; copy the Devanagari when you want the Hindi spelling itself.
For pronunciation, aa in pyaar signals a long vowel. Main and hoon contain nasalized vowels; do not treat the final n as an ordinary English n to pronounce separately. Listen to the appropriate speaker form above, especially the difference between kar-ta and kar-ti.
Tumse or aapse?
Tumse — तुमसे fits familiar address, including someone you are close to. Aapse — आपसे uses the respectful form of “you”:
- मैं आपसे प्यार करता हूँ — Main aapse pyaar karta hoon: masculine speaker form.
- मैं आपसे प्यार करती हूँ — Main aapse pyaar karti hoon: feminine speaker form.
Respectful address can also be used between people who are close. Follow the form of address you use with that person rather than treating aapse as a stronger degree of love.
How to say I love you too
Add भी — bhi, meaning “too” or “also,” after main:
- मैं भी तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ — Main bhi tumse pyaar karta hoon: masculine speaker form.
- मैं भी तुमसे प्यार करती हूँ — Main bhi tumse pyaar karti hoon: feminine speaker form.
When replying, choose the ending for yourself. You may need a different ending from the person who spoke first.
